On May 28, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu attended the reception celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Suriname, and delivered a speech.

Miao Deyu stated that over the 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Suriname have always upheld mutual respect and equality as the fundamental norms governing bilateral relations, pursued walking side by side and mutual benefit as the guiding principles for cooperation, and embraced openness, inclusiveness, and mutual learning as shared values. This has set a fine example of friendly cooperation among developing countries. In their exchange of congratulatory messages, President Xi Jinping and President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons agreed to take the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties as a new starting point to enhance strategic mutual trust, carry forward the traditional friendship, and promote more achievements in practical cooperation across various fields. China stands ready to work with Suriname, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, to consolidate the foundation of political mutual trust, pursue the vision of common prosperity, continue writing the chapter of mutual understanding and affinity, and strengthen the bonds of multilateral coordination. Together, the two sides will fully implement the five programs of Solidarity, Development, Civilization, Peace, and People-to-People Connectivity between China and Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries proposed by President Xi Jinping, and jointly build a China-LAC community with a shared future.

Ambassador of Suriname to China Vanessa Tsin-Jie Li stated that over the decades, Suriname and China have stood together through thick and thin. The two countries have always upheld mutual respect, trust, and benefit, forging an enduring friendship between their peoples. Furthermore, the Belt and Road Initiative cooperation has tangibly enhanced the well-being of both populations. Suriname firmly adheres to the one-China principle, deeply admires the remarkable achievements made by China and appreciates the major-country responsibility China demonstrates on the international stage. Suriname is ready to work with China to deepen exchanges and cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields, continuously elevating the Suriname-China strategic cooperative partnership to new heights.
